Ferries Win For Sustainability

2011 Pittwater Council Sustainability Awards: Highly Commended for the Church Point Ferry ServicePittwater Council award

On 9 October 2011, the ferry service proudly won ‘Highly Commended’ at the Pittwater Council Sustainability Awards, small business category.

Judges looked for green innovations that involved staff, resources, or new business practices. They took notice of the ferry service’s 2011 green projects:

Green Tickets

The Green Ticket program offsets ferry fuel emissions through certified carbon credits. It also reduces a passenger’s own carbon footprint.

The ferry service started the program on 1 January 2011 with fantastic results. This initiative was the first of its kind in NSW public transport.

Putting back into the earth

The ferry service regularly funds the planting of managed, native trees in Australia through the not for profit organisation Trees For Life.

Planting gums in Pittwater

The first 40 ferry passengers on 31 July 2011 – National Tree Day – received a Spotted Gum sapling.

Thank you to our commuters

Our regular commuters have enthusiastically chosen the Green Ticket. This award also belongs to the community!
